Wouldn’t it be a breath of fresh air to be able to speak directly to your perfect customer?

Sounds like a dream right?

I know seems impossible but in reality it's not, I had to learn this the hard way and thankfully it all changed when my mentor asked me this one question...

Who is perfect for your product or service?

At the time I thought it was anyone who had a doorbell, and boy was I wrong.

He then looked at me disappointed and responded with this scenario.

The Concert Hall Challenge

Picture a busy concert hall. People are everywhere, it’s crowded, noisy, chaotic.  In that crowd is a certain someone and you HAVE to get his attention.

How would you do it?

You could ask people one by one. But with thousands of people that’s hardly practical.

You could yell and hope you’d spot him in the crowd. But most people would probably just think you’re off your rocker and ignore it.

The best way to get his attention is obvious.

Shout his name.

Makes sense. But what does that have to do with getting your perfect client?

Bleeding Necks

When I work with clients I ask a lot of questions. One of them is:   “Who is your perfect client? Who is perfect for your product or service?”

Every once in a while a client says:   “Everyone! We sell to everyone!”

No. You don’t.   For two simple reasons:

1) Not everyone needs or wants your product or service.

2) If you try to appeal to everyone you’ll end up appealing to no one.

A perfect client has a problem, a desire, something they really want. And your service gets them what they want.

In the marketing business we call this a ‘bleeding neck’ problem.

Something you want to solve right away. An itch they want to scratch ASAP.

Reach those people and you solve every marketing and sales problem. Here’s how:

Reaching Your Perfect Customer

If you’re a personal fitness coach. You could theoretically sell to anyone interested in fitness.

But let’s say your most profitable service is helping clients who are beginners and want to lose weight and build strength effectively and safely.

So we’re trying to reach people who are either planning to start a fitness regimen soon or have just begun and are unsure about the best practices.

The WORST way to reach those perfect clients is to put up an ad or a post saying something like:

Dan’s Fitness Coaching

We train all levels, all ages, in any fitness style.

Here’s a list of what we can do:

Training you on basic gym workouts

Training you on advanced weightlifting techniques

Training you on cardio fitness

Training you on flexibility and balance

If you are looking to improve your physical health in any way, please call us at...

See the issue?

It’s so bland, so vanilla, so nondescript… that no one is going to think:

“This is for ME!”

And that’s the response we want our perfect client to have:

“This is for me. This scratches my itch. This person gets what I’m dealing with.”

So, don’t be afraid to stand out and tailor your message to your perfect client.
